The following information is provided, to guide you around what you can and can’t dispose of under this scheme.
As part of the BID Scheme, you will receive either RED BID BAGS or a 240ltr / 1100ltr wheelie bin. Waste that is presented in any other vessel will not be collected.
Collections are made on the following days, each week.
Wednesday (by 9am – or Tuesday night) – Red bags/bin of DMR (dry mix recycling) out on the street.
Thursday (by 9am – or Wednesday night) – Bulk cardboard (stack inside a bigger box). This service does not include the disposal of shredded paper.
What you can I recycle:
- Paper: Newspapers, magazines, catalogues, phone books, paperback books, letters, envelopes, junk mail, and copier paper
- Cardboard: Cereal boxes, toilet roll tubes, and other cardboard
- Glass: Bottles and jars
- Plastic: Bottles, tubs, and trays, unless they are black plastic
- Metal: Tins, cans, empty aerosol cans, aluminum foil, and bottle tops
- Drink cartons: Milk, juice, and soup cartons
Here are some recycling tips:
- Do not use black bin bags for recycling
- Wash and squash recyclable plastics before putting them in your bin.
- Empty and rinse all containers before recycling them.
- Make sure all materials are dry and clean.
- Do not put broken glass, such as drinking glasses or ovenware, in your recycling bin. Wrap them carefully in old newspapers and put them in your general rubbish bin.
- Do not put plastic food trays, yogurt pots, and plastic bags in your recycling bin. These are difficult to separate and should go in your black bin.

- Food-tainted items (such as: used paper plates or boxes, paper towels, or paper napkins)
- Used tissues, paper towels or napkins
- Ceramics and kitchenware
- Windows and mirrors
- Plastic wrap
- Packing peanuts and bubble wrap
- Wax boxes
- Photographs
- Polystyrene or Styrofoam
- Hazardous chemicals and chemical containers
- Plastic toys or sporting goods equipment
- Foam egg cartons
- Wood
- Light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
- Yard waste or garden tools
CONTAMINATED BAGS/BINS WILL NOT BE COLLECTED.
