Drivers will be offered 20p discounts for every plastic bottle recycled

Drivers paying for parking at the Merrion Centre in Leeds will be able to pay with plastic bottles during October.

Launched by car park operator CitiPark, the recycling initiative will swap plastic bottles for parking discount vouchers.

Each 500ml bottle will equal a 20p discount.

Bottles collected will be recycled into usable items including shirts, toys and chairs.

Charlotte-Daisy Ziff, head of corporate social responsibilities at Town Centre Securities (CitiPark’s parent company), said: “This promotion not only offers our customers the chance of free/discounted parking, but they can also get rid of their waste plastic bottles and contribute to the protection of the environment at the same time: it’s a win-win all around.

“We hope that as many people as possible will get on board.”

Citipark will also take part in a week-long series of recycling and sustainability activities with a range of retailers and organisations at the Merrion Centre during 22- 26 October.
